Here’s a Delicious Recipe for Perfect Gulab Jamun

Gulab Jamun is a popular Pakistani sweetmeat that’s loved by many. Here’s a delicious recipe for making perfect Gulab Jamun:

Ingredients:

For the Gulab Jamun:

 1 cup fullfat milk powder

 1/4 cup allpurpose flour (maida)

 1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter)

23 tablespoons milk (as needed to form a soft dough)

 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

A pinch of cardamom powder (optional)

For the Sugar Syrup:

 1 cup sugar

 1/2 cup water

 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder

A few strands of saffron (optional)

1 teaspoon rose water or kewra water (optional)

For Frying:

Ghee or oil for deep frying

Instructions:

For the Gulab Jamun:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine milk powder, allpurpose flour, ghee, baking soda, and cardamom powder.
  2. Gradually add milk and knead to form a soft, smooth dough. If the dough is too dry, add a little more milk as needed.
  3. Divide the dough into small portions and roll them into smooth, crackfree balls. Ensure there are no cracks, as they can cause the Gulab Jamuns to break during frying.
  4. Heat ghee or oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the ghee is hot, reduce the heat to low and carefully add the Gulab Jamuns. Fry them on low heat until they turn golden brown, turning them gently to ensure even cooking.
  5. Remove the Gulab Jamuns from the oil and place them on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.

For the Sugar Syrup:

  1. In a separate pan, combine sugar and water to make the sugar syrup. Bring it to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Add cardamom powder and saffron strands to the sugar syrup. Simmer the syrup for 57 minutes until it reaches a slightly sticky consistency.
  3. Remove the sugar syrup from heat and add rose water or kewra water if using. Allow it to cool for a few minutes.

Soaking the Gulab Jamuns:

  1. Place the fried Gulab Jamuns into the warm sugar syrup. Let them soak for at least 12 hours, allowing the Jamuns to absorb the sweetness.
  2. The Gulab Jamuns will swell and become soft as they soak in the syrup.
  3. Serve the Gulab Jamuns warm, garnished with chopped nuts if desired.

Enjoy your homemade Gulab Jamuns! They make for a delightful dessert, especially during festive occasions.
