Spain’s acting prime minister, Pedro Sanchez, has announced that the new government will actively engage both nationally and within Europe to officially recognize the state of Palestine.
Sanchez emphasized that this commitment to recognition and diplomatic efforts is a top priority for the current legislative term. He argued that the international community should acknowledge the Palestinian state as it represents a longstanding and just demand from the Palestinian people.
Additionally, Sanchez called for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza, emphasized adherence to humanitarian law, and urged Israeli authorities to permit international aid to reach the population under siege. While condemning a Hamas attack on Israel, he also denounced the indiscriminate killing of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, emphasizing a balanced approach.
